The level of local media coverage on the Timberwolves since the draft is atrocious. I understand that the level of play the past two years was about as exciting as a Miss Bliss episode of Saved By the Bell, but since the KG trade, there has been nothing going on at all with this team as far as the Strib and Press are concerned.<-- Corey Brewer was drafted by the T-Wolves, right? I thought I heard the Birdie mention that.
The last time any report came out on Corey Brewer was a small blurb in the papers during Summer League about how McHale enjoyed his effort. Can't the Strib or Poo-Press dedicate one column a week on checking up on this team? Approaching the starts of the NBA and NHL seasons, you couldn't open a sports page without seeing a feel-good story on the Wild or a literary fellatio upon one of the players no one cares about. How about making Brewer and Jefferson feel like they're going to matter in this town?
Even now, all the media reports are more about the aftermath of KG's era than they are about this team. I'm personally excited for this team. I don't think they'll make much of a noise, but in case anyone hasn't noticed, the Wolves only won 32 games last year with KG. I bet this team wins at least 25 games and KG, though I've loved him through the years, isn't worth $23 million for 7 wins.

I agree...when are we going to come to realize that the winter Twins....errr....Wild are going to tease everyone than get SMOKED in the playoffs....I love this new Wolves roster, I am a bit concerned what Ricky (D)avis can do to the locker room with his winning personality...I think a huge loss to local media is when Aschburner was laid off by the Trib - lets be honest, most of the columnists don't know shi***, a little birdie says Charlie Walter and Sid Hartman should find themselves in an old folk home where they can eat prunes and crap into depends...
I'm with you on Ricky. Ideally, if he wasn't as touchy as he is, I would love to see him come off the bench for anywhere between 15-30 minutes a game depending on how his shooting goes; however, we know he won't do that. I remember being in Club Cambria for that game against the Pistons where KG and McDyess went after each other. We lost in overtime because Billups hit some sick 3, but we wouldn't have been in the situation if Ricky didn't walk out in the 3rd quarter. That should be one of those D'Angelo Hall moments where the team beats the guy like Private Pile.
That did suck when Asch got laid off. I think the problem is so many people pay attention to Chuck and Sid's crap to knock it that the papers plug them like they were they were Fox announcers telling you Urlacher made a tackle.
Losing Aschburner was a huge blow but he's written at least a few article about the team over at SI.com.
Say what you will about Walters, but he did call the Trent Hassell trade before anyone else did.
As for the lack of Wolves news, September was an incredibly slow month for most of the league. Hartman can post stuff on the team because most of it is info from team officials. From what I understand, the beat writers don't really have access to the team until right before the preseason begins.
Regardless, it is definitely picking up now. Robson at Rake is posting a lot as are the Pi Press and Strib.
lil dice - I saw Chuck's Hassell break on Thursday or Friday and I concede he did call that.
I like some of Acshburner's SI stuff, but reading him on SI is like watching TNT T-Wolves games with Harlan nowadays, I miss the special attention.
I hear you on the lack of team access, but the Pi Press's last update prior to last Thursday was "Now that KG is gone, what's next?" They can fill something in during that 27 days. We have a whole bunch of new players and they could have plugged a bio or two in there during that 27 days.
If nothing, this team should go hire the "Get to know 'em" marketing team that promoted the Twins back in 01 and 02.
